Job Description

Junior Compliance Risk Manager

Our client seeks a Junior Compliance Risk Manager. Support the compliance and risk function by executing day‑to‑day monitoring, risk assessments and AML controls under the guidance of senior managers. Responsible for case investigations, maintaining registers and helping embed compliance practices across the business. This is a hands‑on junior manager role with scope to lead small projects and mentor junior analysts.

Requirements:

  • 2–5 years’ experience in compliance, AML/financial crime or risk within financial services.
  • Degree in Law, BCom, Accounting, or related discipline; compliance/AML certifications (CAMS, FICA, compliance diplomas) advantageous.
  • Familiarity with South African regulatory environment (FICA, POPIA, regulatory reporting) preferred.
  • Strong investigative and analytical skills; attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication; able to prepare clear reports and present findings.
  • Proficient in Excel; experience with transaction monitoring systems and Power BI/Tableau is a plus.
  • Organised, able to manage multiple priorities and work with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Execute compliance monitoring activities and maintain regulatory change trackers.
  • Support AML/financial crime monitoring: review alerts, conduct initial investigations and prepare escalation packs for the MLRO.
  • Assist in risk assessments (RCSA), remedial action tracking and control testing.
  • Maintain registers (policy, breaches, conflicts of interest, training) and prepare regular management MIS.
  • Draft and update policy or procedure documents for review by senior management.
  • Deliver or coordinate compliance training and communication to business units.
  • Support regulatory responses, ad hoc information requests and audit enquiries, liaising with internal and external stakeholders as directed.
  • Drive small process improvement projects and ensure timely closure of remediation items.
