Job Description

Financial Controller Epping Cape Town

Our client in Epping Goodwood Cape Town is looking for a Financial Controller with 5 years plus experience. You will lead the finance function for a distribution business, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong working‑capital management, regulatory compliance. A Qualified CA(SA) would be an added advantage.

 Requirements

  • CA(SA) or BCom (Accounting) with CTA or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in distribution/retail/wholesale preferred.
  • 5 years’ finance experience with at least 2 years in a managerial/controller role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (IFRS), VAT and payroll/tax experience related to South African legislation.
  • Proficient with ERP systems and Excel; experience with inventory‑heavy businesses.
  • Strong analytical, communication and team‑leadership skills; attention to detail and integrity.
  • Timely monthly close and accurate management reports.
  • Reduction in working‑capital days (DSO, DIO, DPO) and improved cash conversion cycle.
  • Budget variance controls and forecast accuracy.
  • Clean external audit with minimal findings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage month‑end and year‑end close, prepare management accounts and variance analysis for senior management.
  • Oversee inventory accounting, cost of sales, stock valuations and reconciliation of warehouse/ERP balances.
  • Drive cashflow forecasting, treasury management and optimisation of debtor, creditor and inventory days.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: prepare annual budgets, rolling forecasts and scenario analyses.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, financial policies and SOX/assurance processes where applicable.
  • Supervise and develop the finance team (accounts, payroll, AP/AR, reconciliations).
  • Implement and maintain ERP/finance systems and reporting tools (e.g., Pastel/Sage/QuickBooks/SAP or similar).
  • Produce KPI dashboards (gross margin, COGS, cash conversion cycle, DSO/DPO/DIO) and present insights to the executive team.
