Job Description

Compliance Officer Cape Town, South Africa

 

Our client, a reputable law firm, is seeking an experienced Compliance Officer. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of compliance experience specifically within a law firm environment. This individual will utilise their legal expertise to ensure the firm complies with all relevant legal standards and internal policies. The Compliance Officer will be responsible for enforcing regulations across all business levels and providing expert guidance on compliance and legal matters. Must have Solid FICA experience.

 

Salary: Market-related CTC (depending on experience and qualifications)

Hours: 8am to 5pm

Type of Role: Permanent – Office based only.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Law / LLB or related field

Admission as an attorney in South Africa will be an advantage

Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Compliance Officer

3+ years’ compliance experience working for a law firm

Must have Solid FICA experience

Certification in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance, AML, etc.) is a plus

In-depth knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and legal requirements

Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record-keeping

Strong business acumen partnered with a dedication to legality

Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities

Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex procedures and regulations

Excellent communication and negotiation skills

 

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and manage control systems to prevent or address legal and policy violations

Provide legal advice on compliance issues to ensure regulatory alignment

Continuously evaluate and improve control efficiency, identifying risks

Draft and implement legally sound company policies

Collaborate with legal and HR teams to enforce standards and regulations

Conduct legal research and stay informed on regulatory changes

Assess future business ventures for compliance and legal risks

Review colleagues’ work for compliance issues and offer legal guidance or training

Prepare detailed reports for senior management and regulatory bodies
