Job Description

Legal Advisor Montague Gardens, Cape Town

 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Legal Advisor to join our FMCG client based in Montague Gardens. The successful candidate will provide legal support across various business functions, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and minimising legal risks. This role is ideal for a legal graduate with strong commercial acumen who is not necessarily an admitted attorney.

 

Level: Please note this is a Junior role / Graduate

Salary: Market related

 

Minimum Requirements:

LLB or equivalent law degree

2–4 years’ experience in a legal advisory, compliance, or contracts administration role (FMCG or commercial sector experience advantageous)

Good understanding of commercial, contract, and consumer law

Experience with intellectual property and/or labour law (Advantageous)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

High level of integrity and professionalism

 

Key Responsibilities:

Draft, review, and assist with the negotiation of commercial contracts, including supplier, distribution, and service agreements.

Provide legal guidance to departments such as sales, marketing, procurement, and HR.

Assist in ensuring company compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including consumer protection, competition, and labour law.

Support the management and resolution of legal disputes, including liaising with external legal counsel when required.

Assist with intellectual property matters, including trademark registrations and brand protection.

Conduct legal research and keep the business informed of relevant legislative changes.

Help develop and implement internal policies and procedures to manage legal risk.

Assist with company secretarial and governance matters as needed.

Support legal training and awareness initiatives for staff.
